The first real test of my ability, preparation, and determination is at hand. Four hikes next week in the Tremont/Elkmont area will quickly let me know if I’m in good shape or not, literally and figuratively. If all goes well, I’ll get in about 45 miles total hiking with approximately 37 new miles covered on part or all of 11 different trails. My biggest concern at present is high water for creek crossings. This could hinder plans to complete a trail. I’m not particularly brave in the face of high, cold, rushing water, which is smart. My own physical well being and my camera are too important to risk. A call to the park’s Backcountry Office will hopefully give me a better idea of conditions and what to expect. Look for new trail posts the last week of February. In the meantime, wish me luck!
